After closer examination you notice strange runes have been carved into the shaft. Most of it is withered away and is illegible but you you identify one of them - "Eld".
As you speak the ancient word flames burst from the ends of the staff. But eventhough the heat is really intense the flame feels cool to the touch.
When you let go of the shaft, the flame fades.
