At one time, long ago, widespread disease in the less civilised areas surrounding the Three Towns was spreading like wildfire and threatening the traditional way of the Bleeding Eye Tribes. Fearing their leaders might succumb to the dreadful diseases their shamen constructed these belts using powerful charms and infused them with natural magical properties. This did not prevent the diseases from spreading however, and were not in plentiful enough supply to be awarded to any but the most important clan leaders. It is thought that the leaders left the area, taking only those who were proven to be free from disease, in search of new land to call their own. What happened to them is unclear. It may be that they found the safehaven they longed for, or it may not be so. What is known, is that those left leaderless, rotting in disease and decay in the wild lands of the continent were forced to fend for themselves, and to nurture their resentment, looking for help or aid wherever they could find it and from whatever sources presented themselves, hoping that one day they would be able to take out their vengeance upon those who abandoned them in their time of need.
