Known for partaking in the spirits a little too deeply, Rygar developed his shields to defend against stray fruit thrown from unhappy listeners. Rygar's fame grew and so did his love for liquor but so did the audiences determination to get the fruit to connect, so Rygar had to come up with a better defence. When his second defence failed spectacularly one particularly drunken Night, an equally drunk Knight threw a flagon that dislodged a tooth. In recompense the Knight had this shield fashioned. The motif on the front representing that dislodged tooth.
